Beyond the Blade is a year-long project from The Guardian where we marked the death of each and every child killed by knives in 2017 and pursued the themes and possible solutions to the issues surrounding knife crime. The primary goal of the project was
to collate all the deaths of children and teenagers in England which, until this project, did not exist in a single archive.
I created a full set of brand elements and guidelines for the project, alongside designing the digital archive for the victims and the various journalistic pieces which appeared both online and in print. The primary goal from a design perspective was to impart a sense of urgency, loss and sorrow that would speak to the pain surrounding the issue while calling attention to the desperate need for systemic change.
